HESPERIA — A 34-year-old Fremont woman was tased by an Oceana County sheriff’s deputy while resisting arrest and assaulting the deputy during a traffic stop on Alley Street near South Street Tuesday, Jan. 13, around 4:30 p.m., said Oceana County Sheriff Craig Mast.
The woman was pulled over for a traffic violation, and when the license plate number was entered in the Law Enforcement Information Network, it showed that the registered owner of the vehicle had a warrant.
The deputy smashed out her car window when she refused to exit the vehicle and display her driver’s license. She was transported to an area hospital for injuries that she claimed to suffer due to being tased, Sheriff Mast said.
The Oceana County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office authorized a warrant for her arrest for a felony charge of assaulting/resisting/obstructing police stemming from the incident. When Newaygo County law enforcement later arrested her on the warrant, she again resisted arrest and assaulted police, said Mast. She was transported to the Newaygo County Jail where she assaulted a corrections officer by biting the officer.
