NWS: The greatest snow totals will be across Mason and Oceana counties.
OCEANA COUNTY — Several west Michigan counties — including Oceana and Mason — are under a winter weather advisory issued by the National Weather service beginning at 4 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 14, until 7 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 15.
Up to 7 inches of accumulating snow is predicted with locally higher accumulations possible. Expect winds gusting as high as 40 mph causing areas of blowing and drifting snow.
“Visibility and road conditions may change rapidly over short distances in lake effect snow,” states NWS. “Travel could be very difficult.
“A brief burst of snow and gusty winds is likely early Wednesday morning followed by lake effect snow. The greatest totals will be across Mason and Oceana counties.
“Slow down and use caution while traveling. During lake effect snow, the weather can vary from bands of locally heavy snow to dry weather just a few miles away. Visibilities can also vary greatly. Be prepared for rapid changes in weather, visibility and road conditions.”
