HART — Hart Varsity dominated Manistee 76-49 in an impressive home victory, improving their perfect record to 6-0. The team showcased balanced scoring and exceptional shooting throughout the contest, with multiple players stepping up to contribute in a complete team effort.
The game started competitively, with the Mariners taking an early 3-0 lead before Pirate Jagger Lenon quickly answered back. After the teams traded baskets and free throws to tie at 5-5, Hart began to pull away behind Lenon’s hot shooting from beyond the arc. The star guard knocked down back-to-back three-pointers to help Hart establish a 18-14 lead after the first quarter, where he poured in 11 points to set the tone.
“Our offense exploded in the second quarter, outscoring Manistee 23-7 to take commanding control,” said HHS Coach Nick Bronsema.
Lorenzo Furlan entered the game and immediately made his presence felt with perfect shooting, connecting on both field goal attempts including a three-pointer. Luke VanderWilk also contributed steady scoring throughout the period. The defensive effort was equally impressive, holding Manistee to minimal scoring opportunities while building a comfortable 41-21 halftime advantage.
The second half saw the Pirates continue their balanced attack, with Caleb Ackley getting hot in the third quarter by scoring six consecutive points on three straight baskets. Kolton Rockwell was also productive, consistently finding good looks near the basket. Lenon finished with a game-high 24 points on efficient 53% shooting, including an outstanding 6-of-11 from three-point range. Furlan was nearly flawless, shooting a perfect 5-for-5 from the field and 3-for-3 from deep to finish with 13 points. The victory showcased the team’s depth and versatility, with multiple players making meaningful contributions in another dominant performance.
Caleb Ackley led the Pirates in rebounds with 9 despite fighting foul trouble.
“Kolton Rockwell was a steady force at the point scoring 12 points while displaying maturation as the key decision maker for the team,” Bronsema said. “Luke VanderWilk displayed his all-around game with 10 points, 6 rebounds, 4 steals, and two blocks. Bryce Vanderkodde continues his strong play as the sixth man where his energy finds the ball on offense and defense.”
Hart takes on the Fremont Packers at home on Friday, Dec. 19 before taking off for winter break.
