HART — The criminal case against a 46-year-old Ferry Township woman accused of murdering her husband was bound over from Oceana County’s 79th District Court to 51st Circuit Court following a preliminary exam Tuesday, Dec. 2.
Shale Nicole Campos is charged with open murder and felony firearm for the shooting death of her 46-year-old husband, Jason Campos, at their residence on East Buchanan Road in Ferry Township in the morning hours of Aug. 14, 2025.
After approximately three hours of testimony from seven witnesses during a preliminary exam in district court, the case was bound over to circuit court by Judge John Middlebrook, said Oceana County Prosecuting Attorney Joseph Bizon.
Forensic pathologist Dr. Edmund Donoghue testified that Jason Campos’ cause of death was a gunshot wound to the head. Mark Burmeister, a paramedic with Life EMS, testified that he was one of the first emergency personnel to arrive on scene. “He checked for a pulse but the victim was deceased, and no life saving treatment was attempted,” said Prosecutor Bizon.
The judge also heard testimony from Oceana County sheriff’s deputy Owen McGuigan, who stated that he was the first officer on scene who secured the crime scene and began the investigation.
Shale Campos initially told detectives that she claimed a “Hispanic male” entered their home through a sliding glass door when she and her husband were asleep, court

“Sgt. Cam Hanson testified about being called to the scene and was asked to do a dog track to see if the alleged intruder could be tracked,” said Prosecutor Bizon. “Based on the lack of physical evidence at the scene and the dog’s lack of any indication of a scent, the police do not believe there was an intruder.”
Det. Donnie Hansen testified that he was called in from vacation to take the lead on the crime scene investigation. Kathleen Favale of the Michigan State Police Crime Scene Unit also took the witness stand to describe processing the scene and collecting physical evidence. Det. Mark Hiddema testified he interviewed Shale Campos.
Shale Campos remains lodged in the Oceana County Jail without bond.
A new hearing date in circuit court has not yet been scheduled.
