OCEANA COUNTY — Oceana County is under a winter storm warning issued by the National Weather Service until Sunday, Nov. 30, at 10 a.m.
Heavy snow is expected with total snow accumulations between 7 and 10 inches. Visibilities may drop to below a ¼ mile due to falling and blowing snow.
Other counties in the storm warning include: Muskegon, Newaygo, Mecosta, Isabella, Montcalm, Gratiot, Kent, Ionia, Clinton, Barry, Eaton, Ingham and Jackson. The warning went into effect Saturday at 7 a.m. Mason, Lake, Osceola and Clare counties are under a winter weather advisory.
“Roads, and especially bridges and overpasses, will likely become slick and hazardous,” states NWS. “People should delay all travel if possible. If travel is absolutely necessary, drive with extreme caution and be prepared for sudden changes in visibility. Leave plenty of room between you and the motorist ahead of you, and allow extra time to reach your destination. Avoid sudden braking or acceleration, and be especially cautious on hills or when making turns. Make sure your car is winterized and in good working order.
“Widespread heavy snow will create hazardous travel conditions. Accumulations of 5-7 inches along US 10 and 7-11 inches south of US 10 are expected. Northwest winds gusting to 30 mph will create blowing and drifting. North-south roadways will be especially prone to drifting.”
