Hogan
HART — A 27-year-old mother and her 34-year-old boyfriend are charged with multiple counts of child abuse in connection to the death of her son, 7-month-old Maverick Lyle Bouck.
Elizabeth LynnLanor Hogan and Devin Austin Brown-Fowler, who both have the same Hartford, Mich. address, are each charged with one count of second-degree child abuse, third-degree child abuse and fourth-degree child abuse.
The Oceana County’s Sheriff’s Office investigated the baby boy’s death that occurred Sunday evening, May 4, in the 9000 block of S. 192nd Avenue in Greenwood Township, said Oceana County Sheriff Craig Mast.

“He had three skull fractures, three broken ribs and a brain bleed — he passed from the brain bleed,” said Aimee Camp, who was Maverick’s grandmother and is Elizabeth Hogan’s mother. Camp said she believes her daughter is more responsible for her grandson’s death than Brown-Fowler is, because one of the skull fractures that Maverick suffered was an “older fracture.”
Camp said she has custody of Elizabeth Hogan’s 7-year-old daughter.
The maximum penalty for second-degree child abuse is 10 years in prison; third-degree is two years in prison; and fourth-degree child abuse carries a one-year maximum, said Oceana County Prosecuting Attorney Joseph Bizon.
Brown-Fowler
When asked why the couple are not being charged with murder or manslaughter, Bizon said, “Murder and manslaughter charges include an element of intent related to desired outcomes. The evidence does not support such a conclusion.”
The prosecutor said Michigan Rules of Professional Conduct prevent him from further comment on the case until it has been presented to the court. ”MRPC 3.6 and 3.8 limit my ability to make any public comment on a case that has not been to court.
Both Hogan and Brown-Fowler are scheduled to appear in 79th District Court for preliminary exams Dec. 9 at 1 p.m. Hogan’s bond was set at $25,000/cash/surety, and Brown-Fowler’s was set at $50,000/cash/surety. They were both arraigned on the charges Monday, Nov. 24.
They both remain lodged in the Oceana County Jail.
