HART — A 20-year-old Walkerville man was sentenced to three concurrent prison terms in Oceana County’s 51st Circuit Court Monday, Nov. 10, for convictions of breaking and entering a building with intent, unlawful driving away of an automobile/car theft, operating while intoxicated and two counts of probation violation.
Aaron Richard Ashbrook broke into the Walkerville Wesleyan Church, May 11, 2025, according to Oceana County Prosecuting Attorney Joseph Bizon. “He stole a tower speaker and snack bags intended for a youth group.”
Two weeks later on May 25, 2025, Ashbrook stole a Jeep and broke into other cars. “He took a Jeep Commander from Shelby Road in Shelby Township,” said Prosecutor Bizon. “There were multiple venues involved, and more than one car was broken into. A stolen Nintendo Switch was found, and also found was a checkbook, battery pack, boot knife and a set of trailer keys.”
Judge Susan K. Sniegowski sentenced Ashbrook to concurrent terms of two to 10 years with credit for 235 days served in jail for one of the probation violation convictions; two to 10 years with credit for 237 days served in jail for the second probation violation conviction; one year and 11 months to 10 years with credit for 169 days served in jail for the breaking and entering a building conviction; and three months and three days with credit for 169 days served in jail for the car theft and OWI convictions, according to court records. He pleaded guilty to the charges, Sept. 29.
Charges of assaulting/resisting/obstructing police and breaking and entering a motor vehicle to steal property valued at less than $200 were dismissed.
Ashbrook was on probation due to 2024 convictions of two counts of breaking and entering a building with intent. He pleaded guilty in both cases, Aug. 5, 2024, court records state. He committed the crimes Nov. 12, 2023 and June 1, 2024, according to court records.
