HART — A 46-year-old man who committed 18 probation violations was sentenced to prison in Oceana County’s 51st Circuit Court Monday, Nov. 10.
Shawn Alan Goerbig’s probation violations result from nine felony charges pending in Roscommon County’s 34th Circuit Court.
Goerbig faces the following charges in Roscommon County: file 1 — aggravated stalking, Jan. 22, 2025 offense; file 2 — assaulting a jail employee and and two counts of assaulting/resisting/obstructing police, March 1, 2025 offense; file 3 — aggravated stalking, July 31, 2025 offense; and file 4 — four counts of assaulting/resisting/obstructing police, Aug. 1, 2025 offense, court records state. Pretrial and status conference hearings on the four cases are scheduled for Dec. 2.
His probation terms in Oceana County stem from 2023 convictions of malicious destruction of jail property, ethnic intimidation, assaulting/resisting/obstructing police and assaulting a jail employee.
“While on probation, Mr. Goerbig was alleged to have been involved in a lot of conflicts in Roscommon where he allegedly engaged in threatening or intimidating behaviors, which is a violation of the rules of probation,” said Oceana County Prosecuting Attorney Joseph Bizon. “This kept getting put on hold to allow Roscommon to deal with the underlying allegations there. But Mr. Goerbig’s behavior continued to delay that process. The judge (Susan K. Sniegowski) indicated she was not going to adjourn again. Mr. Goerbig pleaded no contest to the allegations, and the judge sentenced him.
“Goerbig had about 18 probation violations on four files — accrued simultaneously — for conduct in Roscommon County,” said Prosecutor Bizon.
Goerbig, who had a Rothbury address at the time, was charged with ethnic intimidation for threatening and intimidating black jail inmates while he was lodged in the Oceana County Jail. He was incarcerated in the jail for two felony counts of assaulting/resisting/obstructing police and assaulting a prison employee for assaulting an Oceana County Jail corrections officer. Goerbig also jumped up and down on a jail cell bunk, breaking it, and the sheriff’s office charged him with malicious destruction of jail property.
Goerbig, received the following concurrent prison terms in Oceana County Monday, Nov 10: 20 months to four years with credit for 477 days served in jail; 16 months to two years with credit for 413 days served in jail; 16 months to two years with credit for 528 days served in jail; and 20 months to five years with credit for 528 days served in jail. He faces nine additional felony charges in Roscommon County.
In 2019, he was sentenced to one year and eight months to four years in prison for a Barry County conviction of failure to pay child support and two to four years in prison for a Kent County conviction of assaulting/resisting/obstructing police, according to the Offender Tracking Information System. He has previous convictions of assaulting/resisting/obstructing police and fleeing and eluding in Otsego County in 2008 and assaulting/resisting/obstructing police in Oceana County in 2017.
Goerbig still owes $3,735 in restitution for the jail bunk destruction, according to court records.
