HART — The Oceana County Department of Veteran Affairs is hosting a Veterans Day Parade in Hart Saturday, Nov. 8, at 3 p.m. and a 5K race Saturday morning in Shelby.
The parade, which will include local businesses and military groups, will be held rain, shine or snow, said Oceana County Veterans Affairs Officer/Director Jodi Slinkard.
The procession will begin at the Hart Public Schools campus and head east on Johnson Street to State Street. The parade will turn north onto State Street then turn west on Main Street. It will then turn south onto Water Street to Johnson Street and turn west on Johnson Street, returning to the school.

A Vet Day 5K is set for Saturday at 10 a.m. at the newly-renovated Getty Park in Shelby. The route follows Industrial Park Drive north before looping back south to the William Field Memorial Hart-Montague Trail. All school-age athletes from Oceana County are free to register, said Slinkard.

The Vet Day 5K is the primary funding event for the Oceana County Department of Veteran Affairs, with all of the proceeds staying in the county to support Oceana County veterans for transportation to medical appointments, food pantry and other needs.
“We’ve been getting a lot of good feedback and a lot of people signing up, so we’re looking forward to it,” said Slinkard.
