HART — Hart High School girls and boys cross country teams both won the West Michigan Conference Rivers championships Tuesday, Oct. 14.
This marks the 10th consecutive year that the girls team has won the conference title, and it is the ninth straight title for the Pirate boys squad, said Pirate Coach Calvin Ackley.
The girls team scored a low of 18 points over second place Mason County Central, which totaled 53. Hart’s Natalie Rosema was the meet champion. Also scoring for the Pirates were Alaina Schaner in third place; Luisa VanderZwaag, fourth; Bryn Riley, fifth; Emma Miller, ninth; Kenai Kokx, 10th; and Abigail Studer, 12th. This ends their regular season with an 89-12 record.
The Pirates’ Silas Ackley was the meet champion for the boys. Hart’s Aiden Schaner finished second; Trevor VanderKodde, fourth; Carson Ackley, sixth; Timothy Wolff, seventh; Mason Opalewski, eighth; and Julian Lopez, ninth. The boys end their regular season with a 92-11 record.
Both teams compete Saturday, Oct. 25, at Benzie Central for the regional championships and an opportunity to qualify for the state finals.
