HART — A 54-year-old Rothbury man was sentenced in Oceana County’s 51st Circuit Court to three to 15 years in prison for a conviction of third-degree criminal sexual conduct (CSC) — force or coercion Monday, Oct. 13.
Arnulfo Rios, Jr., pleaded “no contest” to the charge, May 12, and a second count of third-degree CSC — force or coercion was dismissed, according to court records. The incident occurred Jan. 1, 2006, court records state.
“Arnulfo Rios was accused of misconduct in his home in Grant Township — the victims lived in the home,” said Oceana County Prosecuting Attorney Joseph Bizon. “Some of the allegations exceeded the statute of limitations and limited us to two acts of misconduct. The victims now live outside of the State of Michigan. The victims were prepared to appear in court and testify if necessary, but during consultation with them, it was agreed that if the defendant pled to one count and agreed to three years to 15 years in prison, they would be satisfied. As a result of the agreement, the sentence was higher than the guidelines ultimately calculated.”
Rios received credit for six days served in jail.
