HART — Toriann Marie Shirey, 16, of Oceana County has been missing since Sunday, Oct. 5, at 1:30 a.m.
Local police announced Sunday afternoon that Toriann was a missing runaway, and they are seeking the public’s help to find her.
“The investigation revealed that around 11:30 a.m. on Oct. 5 that she was at the Walmart in Ludington,” said Michigan State Police Sgt. Michael Cuevas of the Hart post. “She asked a former family friend of hers for a ride to Manistee, but we can’t confirm if she ever got into a car or not. We just know that she was asking for a ride to Manistee.” The family friend contacted the police.
Toriann is 5’0” in height. The tipster told police that she was wearing a black tank top and jeans and was carrying a pink backpack. Her parents provided police with information about other

possible clothes she may be wearing. She could also be wearing a mustard yellow hoodie or a gray hoodie with a design of a lion and cross on the upper left shoulder area — see the photo of the design MSP provided.
Video surveillance footage did not capture her image, because she was situated in a “blind spot” for the camera, said Cuevas. She was seen on the east side of the Walmart parking lot.
Toriann had no connections with anyone in Manistee as far as the family knew, said Cuevas. “We’re urging people to talk to their children if they know her or if they have seen her.” She is a homeschooled student. She has no phone or other device, he said.
Toriann was previously seen at 1:30 a.m. Sunday near the 1800 block of Hammett Road in Crystal Township.
