HART — Police are looking for the driver who fled the scene of a vehicle vs. bike crash on 72nd Avenue near Polk Road Thursday evening, Oct. 2, said Hart Police Chief Juan Salazar.

The crash resulted in the cyclist — a 17-year-old Hart boy — being injured. The boy was transported from the scene by Life EMS to Trinity Health Muskegon Hospital, and he was set to be released Friday morning, said Hart Police Chief Juan Salazar. It was not immediately known if the boy has been released yet.

“On Thursday, Oct. 2, 2025, at approximately 8:13 p.m., the Hart Police Department was dispatched to the scene of a hit-and-run personal injury crash involving a bicycle and a vehicle on 72nd Avenue, just north of Polk Road,” said Chief Salazar in a press release.

“Upon arrival, officers attended to a 17-year-old Hart man who was hit by a moving vehicle while riding his bicycle. The suspect vehicle, suspected to be a black in color Honda-style vehicle, left the scene prior to the responding officer’s arrival.”

The Hart Police Department requests that anyone who has information about the crash to contact Mason/Oceana Central Dispatch at (231) 869-5858.

Dispatch information indicated that the boy suffered a head injury. He was not wearing a bicycle helmet, said the chief.
