Teen injured after pickup truck hits tree head-on

NEWFIELD TOWNSHIP — An 18-year-old Holton man was transported by Life EMS to Trinity Health Muskegon Hospital following a single-vehicle crash on 198th Avenue near M 20 Tuesday, Sept. 23, shortly before 10 p.m., according to an Oceana County Sheriff’s Office accident report.

The teen was driving a 2000 GMC New Sierra pickup truck and “was traveling south on South 198th  Avenue at a high rate of speed and appeared to have blown through the stop sign at East M 20 Highway,” the report states. “The vehicle drifted off the road to the right, striking a large tree head-on. The suspected driver was located lying in the roadway approximately 50 yards behind the vehicle. He was transported to Trinity Health Muskegon for his injuries. The vehicle was not registered or insured. The crash is under investigation.”

Alcohol and drugs are not suspected to be factors in the crash, the report states.
