Marilyn Ruth Tanner

Marilyn Ruth (Gundy) Tanner passed away peacefully on Friday, September 26, 2025, in Hart. She was born September 5, 1928, in Muskegon, to Ralph and Fannie Gundy. She graduated from North Muskegon High School in 1946.

Marilyn married LaVerne Tanner on December 26, 1947, and they celebrated 35 years together until his passing in 1983. She then spent 22 years with her faithful companion Glen Helmer until his passing in 2009.

Marilyn’s passion was working for Walkerville Public Schools where she retired after 20 years. She enjoyed spending most of her time with her one and only child, Albert, her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, siblings, nieces, and nephews. Marilyn enjoyed playing cards, board games, crossword puzzles, and reading, and she looked forward to gathering with retired school coworkers and friends. She was active in the PTC for many years with Walkerville Public Schools as well.

Marilyn is survived by: her son, Albert (Michelle) Tanner; granddaughter, Tracie (Loren) Swenor; grandsons, Carl Tanner and Thomas (Ariana) Tanner; great-granddaughter, Kenzey Swenor; great-grandson, Sawyer Swenor; sister, Eleva Jensen; and many nieces and nephews. She was blessed to accept the role as family to Glen’s children, Ray (Nancy) Helmer and Terry (Shirley) Helmer; as well as, grandmother to Glen’s grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.

Marilyn was preceded in death by: her brothers, Ralph and Robert Gundy; brothers-in-law, Albert Tanner and Melvin Jensen; sisters-in-law, Lulabelle Tanner and Wanda and Rhudell Gundy.

Visitation will be held from noon to 2 p.m., Wednesday, October 1, 2025, at Beacon Cremation & Funeral Service, King-Hart Chapel, 2370 North 72nd Avenue. Private interment will follow in Carpenter Cemetery, Walkerville.
