SHELBY — Daniel Beaird of Shelby, who just turned 4 years old, is currently in first place in the National Toddler of the Year competition, and his family is asking the community to vote for him to help him capture the big prize.
There are only two days left to cast ballots with voting closing Thursday, Aug. 21.
The winner of the competition will take home $25,000, star in a national ad campaign, lead the Hollywood Christmas Parade, and go on a trip to a Peppa Pig theme park.
“I would put some in the bank for him to go to college as I am a single father of three boys and maybe some in an account for him to use on whatever he needs in the future, and remodel his bedroom,” said his father Dan Beaird of what he plans to do with the prize money if his son wins.
“Shelby is celebrating a heartwarming story this week as one of its youngest residents, Daniel, has climbed to the #1 spot in the prestigious National Toddler of the Year competition,” states a press release from the Village of Shelby.
“This nationwide contest recognizes toddlers who shine with personality, charm, and community spirit. Voting closes this Thursday (Aug. 21), and every vote counts. The Village of Shelby encourages all residents to show their support and help Daniel represent our community on the national stage.”
“This is special for Shelby,” said Village Administrator Phil Morse. “The number of votes he has received is a reflection of the love and support that surrounds one of our youngest citizens.”
