The most serious crash occurred Saturday, Aug. 16, at 12:38 p.m. when a 29-year-old Newport, Mich. man riding a 2023 Polaris RZR in the ORV scramble area was turning right “at a high rate of speed,” states the accident report. He was transported by Life EMS to Trinity Health Muskegon Hospital.
A crash at the dunes Monday, Aug. 11, at 4:42 p.m. resulted in an injury for a 54-year-old Lima, Ohio woman who was operating a 1993 Suzuki Z90. She was northbound in the scramble area “when she lost control of the vehicle,” states the report. “The vehicle overturned, and she was ejected. She sustained a possible back injury and self transported for medical evaluation. The vehicle was not damaged.”
Another crash at the dunes occurred Monday, Aug. 11, at 4:23 p.m. involving a 39-year-old Berea, Ohio man who was riding a 2008 Suzuki LTZ400 ATV. “He stated that he was in the rolling hills of the dunes when his four-wheeler collided with an embankment causing the four-wheeler to launch,” the report states. “He was ejected from the vehicle. The four-wheeler came to rest on its back end. He was unaware of any injury at that time, but later self-transported to Trinity where he suffered from a clavicle injury.”
A 17-year-old Hadley, Mich. boy suffered a minor injury Tuesday, Aug. 12, at 2 p.m. while riding a 2015 Polaris Scrambler ATV. “The driver was fish tailing on some ‘whoops’ near Emergency Marker S1.” He lost control of the ATV, which overturned. (The driver) and the bike came to a stop shortly thereafter. EMS, DNR, Hart area Fire/Rescue arrived on scene. He was evaluated by EMS on scene and then transported to the parking area by Hart Fire/Rescue. He was then transported to the hospital for treatment by his friend.”
