18 fire departments battle fire at David Allen Racing Motorsports

GREENWOOD TOWNSHIP — The fire at David Allen Racing MotorsportsSaturday evening, July 26, yielded a massive response from 18 fire departments from Oceana, Newaygo and Muskegon counties. The Hesperia Fire Area Fire Department was assisted by 17 other departments.

“Saturday evening, Hesperia Area Fire Department was dispatched, along with automatic aid, to a commercial fire at David Allen Racing on South Maple Island Road in Greenwood Township,” states a press release from the Hesperia department. “First arriving units confirmed a working fire with heavy smoke and fire, and a defensive fire attack was initiated utilizing two engines with multiple hand lines, two aerial devices and multiple tankers shuttling water from various water sources. Units were on scene for just over six hours ensuring the fire was out.

“We would like to thank the responding departments listed below (our apologies if we forget to mention anyone) for their assistance and appreciate that through cooperative mutual aid agreements with all surrounding agencies we can assure we all have the resources to mitigate these unusual but major events. We would also like to thank Consumer’s Energy and DTE for their response to shut off utilities and Vandezande Excavating for responding with an excavator and operator to overhaul the fire and clear debris. Finally, we would thank the community for their support and understanding while we disrupted traffic flow to provide a safe scene for our firefighters.”

Responding agencies include: Hesperia Area Fire Department, Fremont Fire Department, Holton Fire Department, Ferry Township Fire Department, Grant Township Fire Department, Shelby-Benona Fire Department, Hart Area Fire Department, Pentwater Fire Department, Crystal Township Fire Department, Walkerville Area Fire Department, Newaygo Fire Department, Ashland-Grant Fire District, White Cloud Area Fire-Rescue, Lilley Township Fire Department, Dalton Township Fire Department, Blue Lake Township Fire Department, White Lake Fire Department, Muskegon Township Fire Department, Oceana County Sheriff’s Office, Life EMS, Oceana County Emergency Management and Norton Shores Canteen 450.
