FERRY TOWNSHIP — A 16-month-old old boy drowned in a backyard pool Sunday, June 22, around 6 p.m. at a home in the 4200 block of South 132nd Avenue, said Oceana County Sheriff Craig Mast.
Deputies were dispatched to the residence where “they found a very distraught family who was trying to attend to a 16-month-old male toddler who had been found in the family’s pool,” said Sheriff Mast. “Aid was attempted unsuccessfully as the infant had succumbed to drowning.
“The family had an above-ground pool in the backyard. It was extremely hot, and the child was out of sight for a short time. This is likely to be a lengthy investigation. We ask everyone to keep the family in their prayers during this very difficult time.”
The Oceana County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Ferry Township Rescue, Life EMS, Oceana County Victims’ Services and the Michigan State Police.
