PENTWATER — Learn about water safety; eat a hotdog lunch; and get a free life jacket during Water Safety Day Saturday, June 14, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Pentwater Municipal Marina.
Marine Sgt. Mike Fillips of the Oceana County Sheriff’s Office, will provide a presentation on water safety, and there will be several hands-on activities for kids, such as practicing tossing a safety line during a water rescue.
Participating agencies will include the Oceana County Sheriff’s Office, Pentwater Police Department, Pentwater Fire Department, Life EMS, Michigan Department of Natural Resources, Michigan State Police and the US Coast Guard.
Various emergency watercraft — ones used in inland lakes and ones used in Lake Michigan — will be on display, said Sgt. Fillips.
No cost or registration is required, and there is no required age range for kids to attend.
Life jackets will be given away on a first come basis while supplies last.
“It will be a good time,” said Sgt. Fillips.
