UPDATE: Handgun has been recovered.
PENTWATER — The Pentwater Police Department is asking for the public’s assistance in locating a small-caliber semi-automatic handgun on Lowell Street between Hancock and Mears streets.
The missing gun, which is believed to be loaded, is connected to a felonious assault arrest following a disturbance that occurred Saturday, May 17, at 12:40 a.m.
“Officers from the Oceana County Sheriff’s Office, Mason County Sheriff’s Office, and the Hart Police Department responded to a disturbance call in the 400 block of West Lowell Street,” states a press release from the Pentwater Police Department.
“One subject was arrested for felonious assault and lodged at the Oceana County Jail.
“Pentwater police are continuing the investigation today (May 17) and asking for your assistance. Officers are trying to locate a small-caliber semi-automatic handgun somewhere between Hancock Street and Mears Street on Lowell Street. The weapon is believed to be loaded. Investigators believe that the weapon was discarded somewhere in this area.
“If anyone finds the weapon, investigators ask that they call 911 and report the location. Investigators caution not to touch the weapon, but to call 911.
“Additionally, investigators are asking anyone with a camera which may have caught some of the incident to check their records. The incident occurred between 12:15 a.m. and 1 a.m. Anyone finding records during that time frame should also call 911.
“On behalf of all the agencies involved, we want to thank you for your support.”
