PENTWATER — As the Pentwater Arts Council’s 2024-2025 Sculpture Walk draws to an end, the council announced its donation of a favored sculpture piece, “Gypsy,” to the Village of Pentwater.

“With the help of Pentwater community input, the final decision of ‘Gypsy’ was favored by a slightly greater than 2-1 vote over ‘Time Passes,’ another popular sculpture piece,” states a press release from the arts council. “As a result, Gypsy will be donated to the Village of Pentwater for permanent display by the Pentwater Arts Council.

Jeff  Best, a Michigan artist and creator of “Gypsy,” used repurposed barbed-wire to create a life-like detailed form of a graceful horse currently located on the north side of the Pentwater Channel. Best describes himself as an avid outdoorsman, and it is his love of the outdoors that has inspired his creativity through the medium of repurposed barbed-wire to create “Gypsy.” He draws irony in the fact that barbed-wire, often used in holding back livestock, is given a new purpose and beauty as “Gypsy” is brought to life.

May 31, 2025 will mark the end of the three-year commitment of sculpture art to the Village of Pentwater. During this time frame, the community has been exposed to 16 sculpture pieces placed throughout the village and, through arts council, DDA and private donations, six sculptures have been donated to the village or the Pentwater Historical Society and remain in the village.
