LANSING – The Oceana County Road Commission (OCRC) was honored with three statewide IMPRESS Awards at the 2025 County Road Association of Michigan Highway Conference.

“IMPRESS Awards recognize county road agencies that demonstrate innovation on noteworthy projects in the categories of communications, operations and collaboration,” states a press release from the County Road Association of Michigan.

Oceana County received awards in all three categories:

  • Collaboration: for a Shelby school zone signage and flashers project, which improved school zone safety through effective collaboration with Shelby Public Schools, the Village of Shelby and the Michigan Department of Transportation.
  • Communications: for a road bond paving Initiative, which successfully communicated the process and secured a $3.5 million bond to pave 25 miles of primary roads.
  • Operations: for a Shelby Road resurface project, supported by a TEDF A Grant, which restored road conditions and boosted local employment.

“Oceana’s comprehensive approach to safety, communication and operational excellence is truly commendable,” said Denise Donohue, County Road Association of Michigan CEO. “Their projects demonstrate a balanced commitment to innovation, safety and community development.”

“The school zone project enhanced safety near educational facilities; the road bond paving initiative improved public transparency and financial planning; and the road resurface project provided critical infrastructure improvements while creating jobs,” states the press release.

“An independent panel of communications and operations experts from several of Michigan’s 83 county road agencies judged all IMPRESS Awards submissions. Award recipients were honored for projects that solved time constraints, labor costs, communication barriers and fostered collaboration.

“The 83 members of the County Road Association of Michigan represent the unified voice for a safe and efficient county transportation infrastructure system in Michigan, including appropriate stewardship of the public’s right-of-way in rural and urban Michigan. Collectively, Michigan’s county road agencies manage 75 percent of all roads in the state, including 90,500 miles of roads and 5,900 bridges. County road agencies also maintain the state’s highway system in 63 counties. Michigan has the nation’s fourth-largest local road system.”
