Candidate field will be narrowed down to five

HART — After having no asparagus queen in 2024, the National Asparagus Festival has a group of 11 women competing for this year’s crown.

Last year’s asparagus queen competition was canceled due to a lack of interested candidates. This year, there are so many women interested in wearing the crown that the candidate field will be narrowed down.

“Due to the amazing turnout of candidates this year, the 2025 asparagus queen candidates will undergo a preliminary meeting with judges on Thursday evening, May 8, where a group of five semi-finalists will be determined,” states an announcement from National Asparagus Festival organizers posted on Facebook. “Following, the semi finalist candidates will be announced and will participate in various activities, including a tour of the West Michigan Research Station where they will get a crash course on the Michigan Asparagus industry, and even the opportunity to help pick asparagus. A final meeting with judges will take place on Saturday, June 7 where our panel of judges will determine who will be the 2025 National Asparagus Queen and the 2025 National Asparagus Queen Runner-up.”

A crowning ceremony is scheduled during the Friday night live concert event, June 13, featuring the band, Your Generation.

The queen candidates include: Chloe Coker, sponsored by Appletree Automotive; Haley Walsworth, sponsored by Golden Stock Farms; Tess Bradley, sponsored by Lighthouse Associates; Erynn Hoeker, sponsored by La Fiesta; Alice Smith, sponsored by the Stony Lake Store, Stony Lake Inn, and Rabe Orchards; Claire Gowell, sponsored by Fleming Farms; Celeste Miller, sponsored by Signature Investigations Group, DS MotorSports, SilverBack Offroad, Klotz Auto Parts, Mike’s Auto Body, Steve’s Auto and Truck, Inc., and Birch and Blossom; Kaitlyn Sutton, sponsored by Farmhouse, Kitchen and Market; Anna Vanduinen, sponsored by the Pentwater Fire Department Association; Shelby Purdy, sponsored by Reeman Farm Supply of Fremont; and Olivia Porter, sponsored by Excel Propane.

The National Asparagus Festival Joan Glover Royale Parade is set for Saturday, June 15, at 2 p.m. in Hart. Organizers announced a new route for this year’s parade.
