VICTORY TOWNSHIP, Mason Co. — The Michigan Education Association’s 13-B Coordinating Council recently recognized several students and MEA members during its inaugural Outstanding Persons in Education Awards Banquet held at West Shore Community College.
During the event, eight area secondary students were recognized as Academic All-Stars and three MEA members were recognized as Outstanding Persons in Education, and one person was recognized as a Friend of Education.
Award recipients were selected based on scholarship, leadership, character, and service. This was the 29th year that All-Star Awards were presented. Recipients included Jose Lopez of Mason County Central High School, Avery Crawford of Mason County Eastern High School, Maddie Gasaway of Ludington High School, Nathan Macher of Pentwater High School, Lexie Nienhuis of Hart High School, Arden Bradford of Onekama High School, and Lillian Hall of Bear Lake High School.
Lopez also was the recipient of a $500 award and Crawford was the recipient of a $200 award for outstanding achievements.
Outstanding Persons in Education Award recipients included Joan Vidak of Mason County Central Education Association, Donna Miller, Pentwater Education Association, and Donna Dege, Kaleva-Norman-Dickson Educational Support Professional Association.
Jan Lash, Kaleva-Norman-Dickson School District parent and PTA volunteer, received the Friend of Education Award.
