HART — A 32-year-old homeless man was sentenced to concurrent prison terms of five to 15 years for second-degree home invasion and two and a half to 10 years for methamphetamine possession in Oceana County’s 51st Circuit Court Monday, April 14.
Rob Roger Smith pleaded guilty to the charges Monday.
His previous plea, Dec. 16, was rejected by Judge Susan K. Sniegowski, said Oceana County Prosecuting Attorney Joseph Bizon, and Smith entered a new plea Monday, which was followed immediately by sentencing.
Charges of fleeing police and assaulting/resisting/obstructing police were dismissed.
Smith was arrested by Oceana County sheriff’s deputies after allegedly fleeing from police on a stolen motorcycle on East Filmore Road in Leavitt Township, Oct. 20, said Oceana County Sheriff Craig Mast. He committed the home invasion in the 700 block of North 204th Avenue.
“He was riding on a stolen motorcycle which relates to a case in Mason County, and he went to a house and started taking property from the house,” said Prosecutor Bizon. He stole a large quantity of kids’ toys, he said.
Smith received credit for 176 days served in jail.
