WALKERVILLE — Whether you’re a Walkerville family with a 4, 5 or 6-year-old or a family with a youngster who would like to explore more about Walkerville Public Schools, you’re invited to a Space Adventure Party Thursday, April 10, from 5-6:30 p.m. in the high school gym.

“It doesn’t have to be just Walkerville kids — students from other districts are invited,” said Walkerville Public Schools Superintendent/Principal Joe Conkle.

Not only will attendees be dazzled by the fun and exploration, they will also receive a free delicious meal provided by the district’s food service team.

Students and parents can explore the universe inside a mobile star lab with 3D planets, stars and comets. “It’s a giant tent with the 3D holograms projected onto the tent’s ceiling,” said Conkle.

Venture out on a space walk, which is a fun obstacle course, or toss Frisbees to different planets to learn more about them. Children can design their own star cookies at a decorating station.

“It’s tied in with Title I literacy events to engage parents and students with reading and different academics,” said Conkle. Title I provides federal funds to schools to improve literacy and academic achievement, he explained. “It’s to bridge the gap between the school and the parents. There is so much more than can be done at home to reinforce what they’re learning in the schools.”

The Space Adventure Party is the “blast off” for the school’s kindergarten round up, which is set for Thursday, April 24, from 4-6:30 p.m. for pre-K through second grade students.

Round Up Towards the Future will have a Lego station, a Grassroots494 station, and snacks available. Grassroots494 provides free dental care for individuals without insurance who live in Eastern Oceana County.

Bring a completed registration packet to kindergarten roundup to enter a drawing. If you don’t have a packet, there will be time to complete the packet there.
