HESPERIA — A 31-year-old Greenville man and a 26-year-old Greenville woman were arrested by Oceana County sheriff’s deputies Wednesday afternoon, March 12, following a police chase that ended with the suspects’ vehicle crashing and a K-9 tracking them down in the woods, said Oceana County Sheriff Craig Mast.
The pursuit began shortly after 1 p.m. on South Street in the Village of Hesperia and ended on 124th Avenue near Garfield Road in Otto Township. A traffic stop was initiated by a deputy for an unlawful license plate, said the sheriff. The couple then led the police on a 16-minute chase that totaled “several miles through the county,” Mast said.
The man was arrested on charges of fleeing and eluding police and driving while license suspended, and a charge of drug possession is pending lab analysis of the substance. The woman was wanted for probation violation for allegedly cutting off her electronic monitoring device/tether.
They were both lodged in the Oceana County Jail.
