OCEANA COUNTY —Several central Lower Peninsula counties are under a burning ban issued by the Department of Natural Resources due to warm, dry, windy conditions. Residents are urged not to burn due to how quickly a fire can spread in these weather patterns.
A wind advisory issued by The National Weather Service is in effect until 8 p.m. Saturday, March 15. South winds 20-30 mph with gusts up to 55 mph are expected.
In Oceana County, there were emergency calls for the following Friday, March 14, 2025:
- 1:24 p.m., a 20×30 chicken coop fire with an “aggressive fire around it,” Arthur Rd. near 120th Ave., Otto Township.
- 2:41 p.m., grass fire due to a person burning trash and the grass caught on fire, 164th Ave. near Loop Rd. near Hesperia.
