HART — A fire that was extinguished Tuesday afternoon, March 4, rekindled the following morning, completely destroying a second duplex unit that had been saved in the first fire.
A grease fire in a kitchen destroyed one duplex unit at 1109 Parmington Ave. Tuesday. When it rekindled early Wednesday morning, the fire destroyed the second duplex unit.
No one was home in either unit at the time of the second fire.

Firefighters were dispatched back to the scene around 4 a.m. Wednesday, March 5. Crews remained on scene until approximately 10 a.m., said Hart Area Fire Department Public Information Officer Troy Maloney.
“It was a whole structure fire all over again,” said Maloney. The same departments — Hart, Shelby-Benona and Pentwater — were called back to the scene, along with additional manpower from Ferry Township. “It was fully involved upon arrival — everything was completely destroyed.”
No people were injured in either fire, said Maloney, although three cats died in the first fire and a fourth cat was still missinng as of Wednesday afternoon.
The residents of the duplex unit that was salvaged in the first fire were able to get some possessions out of their home prior to the second fire, said Maloney. The building burned down to the foundation, he said.
