Over 900 acres, migrant housing, prime farmland and extensive farm equipment for sale
HART – Todd and Sarah Greiner of Todd Greiner Farms Packing LLC have announced a significant land and equipment auction as they transition their business focus, states a press release from the auction service handling the sale.
“After 30 years of successful farming — raising asparagus, cherries, apples, and other crops — the Greiners are concentrating their efforts on marketing and selling Michigan asparagus, pumpkins, and other vegetables.
“As part of this transition, they will be selling more than 900 acres of prime farmland, including migrant housing and hundreds of acres of prime farmland, offered in 20 parcels. In addition to the real estate, there will be a second auction which will feature a large lineup of extremely well-maintained farm equipment, including over 30 tractors and more than 30 trucks and trailers. Known for their dedication to quality, the Greiners have taken exceptional care of their land and machinery, making this auction a rare opportunity for buyers.”
The real estate auction is set for Friday, March 7, beginning at 11 a.m. at the West Michigan Research Station, at 5185 N. Oceana Dr.
The equipment auction is set for Saturday, March 8, beginning at 10 a.m. at the farm located at 1938 W. Jackson Rd.
“Todd Greiner recently shared his vision for the future in an interview with The Packer: ‘By focusing on reducing our total acreage and focusing on sales and marketing, we can better target our investments in time and resources and add value to better serve Michigan’s growers and ensure that the exceptional products from our region, like asparagus, sweet corn, and pumpkins, continue to reach consumers nationwide.’”
The farm is the defendant in a lawsuit filed in 2021, claiming unsafe working conditions at the Jackson Road processing facility, including pesticide exposure. The Michigan Immigrant Rights Center filed a lawsuit on behalf of two migrant farm workers. The complaint alleges they weren’t the only workers affected by the chemicals, and MIRC is asking a federal judge to approve a class-action lawsuit, so that all of the 200 workers at the facility can be eligible for compensation.
The press release issued about the auction did not state that the lawsuit and the decision to transition the business focus are related.
