Dolores Bauer, 96, of Mears, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 23, 2025, at her residence. Born August 12, 1928, in Detroit, she was the daughter of Sidney and Edna Stephens.
Dolores was a loving, caring wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend to all. Dolores grew up on a Boy Scout camp in Brighton, along with her twin sister, Joyce Stephens, and younger brother, Robert (Bob) Stephens.
While attending college at Macomb College (now Western Illinois University), Dolores met H. Edward Bauer “Ed”; they married in 1951. They managed a large dairy farm in Battle Creek for eight years, then bought Flora-dale Resort at Silver Lake and operated it for 35 years until they retired.
Dolores was known for her cooking and baking skills, but most famous for her sweet rolls and apple pie. After retiring from Flora-dale Resort she published two cookbooks.
In the off season from the resort, she loved traveling with Ed to over 40 countries and all seven continents. She also traveled on several mission trips to Brazil, Colombia, and Russia.
Dolores was very active in her community being a member of the hospital auxiliary, Methodist Women’s Group, Red Cross, chamber of commerce, and even played Mrs. Santa at Golden Elementary School in Mears.
In the off season of the resort, she worked several years as a cook at Camp Barakel in Fairview, plus spent many years working in the kitchen at Grace Adventures in Mears. She was known there as “The Cookie Lady” for all the delicious cookies she made for the camp.
Dolores is survived by: her children Harold Bauer, Margaret Bauer, Marilyn Jones, and Beverly Bauer; grandchildren, Ashley Jones and Crystal Bryan; great-grandchildren; Tytus and Nathan Bryan; and brother, Robert (Bob) Stephens.
Dolores was preceded in death by: her husband, H. Edward Bauer; parents, Sidney and Edna Stephens; and twin sister, Joyce Stevens.
A Celebration of Life will be conducted on Tuesday, August 12, 2025, at Beacon Cremation & Funeral Service, King-Hart Chapel, 2370 North 72nd Avenue, Hart. Time to be determined.
