WALKERVILLE — A 39-year-old Hart man was arrested on charges of assault with a dangerous weapon, carrying a concealed weapon and felony firearm after wielding a pistol at the Lake-Osceola State Bank, at 133 E. Main St., and causing a minor injury to a 62-year-old man.

Kyle Jon Peters pleaded not guilty during his arraignment in Oceana County’s 79th District Court, according to court records, and is scheduled to appear for a competency hearing Thursday, Feb. 6, at 9 a.m.

The assault occurred Monday, Jan. 27, shortly before 2 p.m., according to Michigan State Police Cadet Dante Richards of the Hart post.

“This was not a robbery — it was a dispute between two people that happened at the bank,” said Oceana County Prosecuting Attorney Joseph Bizon. The victim was not a bank employee, said Bizon.

“It is still under investigation,” said Richards.

Peters is free after posting a $1,000 bond Thursday, Jan. 30, according to court records.

Assault with a dangerous weapon is punishable by up to four years; carrying a concealed weapon carries a five-year maximum; and felony firearm is punishable by up to two years, said Bizon.
