BIG RAPIDS — Five Hart High School band students performed in the Randall Standridge High School All-Star Band Monday, Jan. 27, at Big Rapids High School.

All-star Pirate musicians include: senior J.J. Bizon on French horn, junior Aubrey Hendrickson on flute, sophomore Peter Tuinstra on saxophone and freshmen Bailey Helenhouse on tenor saxophone and Henry Galindo-Lucio on trombone.

Randall Standridge, one of the biggest names in modern wind band and orchestral composition, conducted the honors band that included 131 high school band students. Standridge is an Arkansas native with composition degrees from Arkansas State University.

Students were nominated by teachers from 23 schools in the surrounding area. They met with Standridge for an all-day practice, followed by an evening concert.

“Each of our students who attended this event were selected based on their musical ability and their dedication to music,” said Hart Band Director John Breitenbach. “Each director had the opportunity to select a handful of students for this. These five students did an outstanding job throughout the day. They represented our band program, our school, and community with pride.”
