Homeless man faces prison term for invading home

HART  — A 31-year-old homeless man is looking at a three-year prison term after pleading guilty during a pretrial hearing in Oceana County’s 51st Circuit Court to second-degree home invasion and methamphetamine possession Monday, Dec. 16.

Rob Roger Smith faces a prison term of three to 15 years for the conviction, said Oceana County Prosecuting Attorney Joseph Bizon.

Charges of fleeing police and assaulting/resisting/obstructing police were dismissed.

Smith was arrested by Oceana County sheriff’s deputies after allegedly fleeing from police on a stolen motorcycle on East Filmore Road in Leavitt Township, Oct. 20, said Oceana County Sheriff Craig Mast. He committed the home invasion in the 700 block of North 204th Avenue.

Sentencing is set for Feb. 3 at 11 a.m. Smith remains lodged in the Oceana County Jail awaiting sentencing.
