SHELBY — The Shelby Marching Tigers finished their successful season of marching band, supporting the football team and earning a Division “1” rating at the Michigan School Band and Orchestra Association Marching Festival in Big Rapids.

The band concluded the season with an indoor marching band show titled “Spectacular!” in November.

The seventh-eighth grade Shelby Cadet Band — after learning some marching basics — jumped into concert season performing for veterans at the Shelby Middle School Veterans Day assembly.

“In the midst of this, we had 14 middle school students represent Shelby at the MSBOA Solo and Ensemble in Chippewa Hills, Nov. 23,” said Shelby Band Director Erin Ray. “All students that receive a Division ‘1’ are invited to the MSBOA honors band Jan. 14. Shelby is lucky to host this event and welcomes you to listen to our fantastic students in District 1. The performance will be Jan. 14 at 6:30 p.m. in the Shelby High School auditorium.

“All ensemble groups in sixth through 12th grade and the jazz band are now in the process of getting ready for their community holiday concerts,” said Ray. “We welcome all community members to our performances, which will also feature our awesome choir program.”

The high school concert is set for Saturday, Dec. 14, at 7 p.m., and the middle school concert is set for Tuesday, Dec. 17, at 7 p.m. Both performances take place at the SHS auditorium and are free.

“The Shelby Christmas Ensemble in the meantime has been spreading cheer at the Tiger Bazaar and downtown tree lighting. You can also find them after our high school concert in the cafeteria with refreshments. Our jazz band has also been rehearsing and working on our holiday tunes. You can catch us at the Book Nook in Montague Saturday, Dec. 14,  at 10 a.m. and at both holiday concerts,” she said.
