Esther Sue Johnson, 81, left this earth at 3:37 a.m. on Wednesday, November 20, 2024, at her home, due to a short illness. Sue was surrounded by her loved ones. She was born March 26, 1943, in Lawrence, and was a lifelong resident of Hesperia.
Sue was born in Lawrence on March 26, 1943, to Fred and Beulah May (Lands) Taylor, where she grew up in a loving household with brothers Arthur, William, Robert, and Jerry, and sisters Jane and Ruth.
Throughout Sue’s life she enjoyed music and was a singer with a powerful voice. She loved to sing and, in her prime, could be found singing Karaoke at her favorite venues. Sue also had a love of baking, especially her tradition of making Christmas candy with her children and grandchildren each year.
Sue is survived by her four children: Larry (Nickie) Nicholas of Montana, Cheryl Orona of Hesperia, Robert Nicholas of California, Edward Hettmansperger of Hesperia; her life partner, Lyndon Johnson of Hesperia; and her sister, Ruth Layde, also of Hesperia; along with many nieces and nephews.
Sue was lovingly called “Nana” by her grandchildren, Angela Spencer of Muskegon, Kyra (Tristin & Ryker) Grey of Hesperia, Mataya Orona of Zephyrhills, Fla., and Joseph Orona of Tampa, Fla.
Sue was preceded in death by: her parents, Fred and Beulah Taylor; brothers, William and Arthur Willoughby, Robert and Jerry Taylor; and her sister, Jane Eisner.
Sue will be sadly missed and greatly remembered by many who loved her in the community, especially her closest friend whom she loved dearly, Ella (Dan) Pletcher.
A celebration of life open house will be held from 2 to 4 p.m., Sunday, December 8, 2024 at the American Legion Post #411, 4075 South 198th Avenue, Hesperia.
