HART — Six local men face felony charges for allegedly ”spinning donuts” on a newly-paved road, causing $40,000 in damages.
The Oceana County Sheriff’s Office investigated the malicious destruction of a 250-foot section of newly-paved East Baker Road in Newfield Township caused by vandals “spinning donuts.”
The Oceana County Road Commission reported that the road sustained $40,000 in damages, previously said Lt. Shane Hasty of the Oceana County Sheriff’s Office, and it required repaving. The vandalism was reported Oct. 24, and it is believed that the damages occurred overnight.
The following men face felony charges of malicious destruction of property valued between $1,000 and $20,000 and malicious destruction of trees, shrubs, crops, grass, turf, soil $20,000 or more and a misdemeanor of reckless driving:
- Jeremiah Hunter Smith, 18, of 4101 Riverview Dr., Hesperia;
- Benjamin Wesley Jewett, 24, of 9006 Baker Rd., Hesperia;
- Robert Allen Smith, 54, of 8098 E. Baker Rd., Hesperia; (mugshot unavailable.)
- Derrick A. Minzey, 18, of 4163 S. 198th Ave., Hesperia;
- Timothy Wayne Smith, 46, of 4101 S. Riverview Dr., Hesperia;
- Leo Elwood McCulley IV, 23, of 3162 W. Monroe Rd., Hart.
They were all arraigned in Oceana County’s 79th District Monday morning, Dec. 2, and they are all scheduled for a preliminary exam Dec. 17 at 1 p.m.
All of the men have been released on $10,000/personal recognizance bonds.
The maximum statutory penalty for both felony charges is 10 years in prison, said Oceana County Prosecuting Attorney Joseph Bizon.
