HART — Veterans Day is Monday, Nov. 11, and a Veterans Day Parade is set for this Saturday, Nov. 9, at 2 p.m. on State Street.

The parade, which will include local businesses and military groups, will be held rain or shine, said Oceana County Veterans Affairs Officer/Director Jodi Slinkard.

The procession will begin at the Hart Public Schools campus and head east on Johnson Street to State Street. The parade will turn north onto State Street then turn west on Main Street. It will then turn south onto Water Street to Johnson Street and turn west on Johnson Street, returning to the school.

The plan is to make the parade an annual event, said Slinkard.

The Third Annual Vet Day 5K is also set for Saturday, Nov. 9, beginning at 10 a.m. in Shelby. The 5K race begins and ends at the newly-renovated Getty Park and follows the William Field Memorial Hart-Montague Trail north before looping back south on Industrial Drive.

The Vet Day 5K is the primary fundraising event for the Oceana County Department of Veterans Affairs, and 100 percent of the proceeds support transporting Oceana County veterans to medical appointments.
