A word about sending us information

November 5, 2024

Dear Readers,

As a news service, we are more than happy to promote local community organizations and their events. In order for us to publish information about your organization and its events, I am asking that you send an email with the appropriate information: Who, what, where, when, and why. This email should be sent as plain text in the email or as a Word document. Not a PDF. While some tend to just send us a brochure, that is not our preferred way of receiving information.

“Tagging” MCP or OCP in your Facebook posts will likely not result in us promoting your event. You will have a much higher success rate emailing the information.

When sending a press release, please do not use bolded words, all caps and italics. We follow AP (Associated Press) style, which is a nationally-recognized standard for journalists and public relations professionals. We will change the information to plain text removing all that extra formatting. It’s totally OK, however, if writing a press release is not your forte. News Editor Allison Scarbrough and myself each have nearly 40 decades of experience in this business and will re-work your information so it’s easy to read and right to the point.

Please try to avoid using acronyms on first reference, unless it is a commonly-excepted and known acronym such as U.S. Again, we are kind of old school with our writing style and we write with the assumption that the reader does not know the reference.

Sending photographs and/or graphics/logos is always helpful. Photographs should be at least 800 pixels wide at 72 ppi.

As stated above, we are happy to promote local community organizations and their events — to a certain degree. If your organization sends out multiple press releases a week, you may want to consider purchasing an advertising package. Speaking about advertising, we consider any type of press release from a business as content marketing, with few exceptions. If you are a current advertiser with MCP and OCP, we gladly will promote your business and its events. But, if your business does not advertise with us, we strongly suggest you consider doing so. We are a small business also and we rely on the support of advertisers, sponsors and individuals in order for us to provide our service for free. We have a very large reach through our two websites and our two Facebook pages.

You may email Mason County information to myself, Rob Alway, editor-in-chief: editor@mediagroup31.com and Oceana County information to Allison Scarbrough, news editor: allison@mediagroup31.com.

Sincerely,

Rob Alway

Editor-in-Chief
