ELBRIDGE TOWNSHIP — A 53-year-old Hart man was killed by an accidental electrocution when the pole saw he was using to cut a branch off a tree hit an overhead power line Saturday, Nov. 2, around 5 p.m. at a residence in the 800 block of 136th Avenue, according to Oceana County Sheriff Craig Mast.
Witnesses to the tragic accident pulled him down from the tree and tried to help him. A family member called 911, and first responders immediately began CPR on the man upon arrival. He was declared dead at the scene.
“He accidentally touched the power line with the pole saw,” said Mast. “The man was trying to trim a tree, and the metal pole he was using accidentally came in contact with a high voltage line.”
The man’s name is not being released pending notification of family.
“This is a very unfortunate incident, and it drives home the importance of due care and caution when working around high power lines and any electricity,” said Sheriff Mast. “It’s very dangerous.”
