Marilyn Jean Baker, 86, of Pentwater, died on Sunday, October 27, 2024 after a short illness.
She was born on September 7, 1938 to Katherine “Kate” and Peter Bekkering. Marilyn married Duane Jack Baker on March 26, 1955. Together they enjoyed a life filled with adventures, taking their three daughters Brenda, Barbara, and Becky along for the ride.
The family lived in Marne then moved to Colorado where they enjoyed weekends hiking, fishing, and traveling. Marilyn’s favorite place to live was Estes Park, Colorado.
They later moved to Fountain in 1984, where they opened the Quality Service Center in Scottville. She and husband Duane ran the business together for 32 years. Marilyn continued the business for three years after Duane’s death. She truly enjoyed her business, selling uniforms and sharing her skill as an expert seamstress. She retired in October of 2018. In her retirement, Marilyn bought the condo of her dreams in Pentwater, traveled to Maui, Hawaii, Florida, the Grand Canyon among many other destinations. Her smile and gentle manner won over friends wherever she went.
She will be greatly missed by her three daughters Brenda Baker (Jim Paulson) of Elroy WI, Barbara (Francis) Bray of Hart, MI, and Becky (Todd) Hirthe of Sturgeon Bay, WI; three grandchildren, Katelynn Berel, Eric Bray, and Andrea Bailey; three great grandchildren; and her sister, LuAnn Connell of Cheyenne, WY.
Marilyn’s memorial service will be held on Thursday, November 7, 2024 at noon at Oak Grove Funeral Home of Ludington, with visitation starting at 10:30 a.m. Marilyn will be laid to rest at Marne Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Circle Rocking S Children’s Farm.
