GRANT TOWNSHIP — A 41-year-old Muskegon man was ejected from the silver 2011 Cadillac SRX he was driving Monday, Oct. 14, shortly before 5 p.m. on southbound US 31 near the Rothbury rest area, according to an Oceana County Sheriff’s Office accident report released Thursday, Oct. 17.

The report’s narrative states that the SUV “left the right side of the roadway, struck a tree and overturned, ejecting the driver.”

The man was not wearing a seatbelt. However, the SUV’s airbag was deployed.

Alcohol and drugs are not believed to be factors in the crash. The report indicates that there were no “contributing” or “special” circumstances, such as an animal in the road. The report also indicates that the driver was not distracted, but it is “unknown” if there were any “hazardous actions.”

According to the report, the man’s injuries were non-life-threatening, and he was transported by Life EMS to Trinity Health Muskegon Hospital.

The freeway was closed for about a half hour in the vicinity of the crash.
