WALKERVILLE — Roam the hallways of Walkerville Public Schools the evening of Saturday, Oct. 26, and be prepared for a spooky experience.

The Walkerville Student Council presents Haunted Hallways at Walkerville Public Schools from 7-9 p.m.

Admission for children ages 5-12 years old is $5, and admission for ages 13 years and older is $10. Snacks will be included.

The money raised from the ghoulish event goes to the student council to fund homecoming and spirit week festivities and other fun events that the group organizes throughout the school year.

“We have done the Haunted Trail out at the cross country course for the last three years and we’ve had a good time and a really good turnout, but it’s always hard with weather,” said Advisor Mandy Achterhof. “The last couple years it has been really cold or wet and rainy.”

Hauling everything out to the trail became cumbersome, and a lack of electricity also posed issues. “So when I brought it up to the kids about possibly bringing it in here, they all agreed that it would be a lot easier. It gives them more access to do lighting, fog machines, and things like that.

“We’re working on making our own decorations,” said Achterhof. Many decorations that were used on the Haunted Trail will be incorporated into the Haunted Hallways.

Not only are student council members working hard preparing decorations for the big night, but they are also getting their costumes ready. “All the kids participate and dress up in costumes and get to scare other people and other kids, so that’s a fun part too.”

“It’s going to be a lot safer — especially for little kids because it’s not outside in the middle of nowhere,” said Student Council Treasurer Ayla White.

“I think the Haunted Hallways will have a better turnout than the Haunted Trail, because it is a lot more accessible to people,” said Student Council President Jaymes Conklin. “People do get lost trying to find the trail, because it is on a dirt road and it is kind of hidden. I also think it will be a lot more fun for us who are working on it, because we’re not going to be standing in the freezing cold for hours, and it will be a lot easier to clean up. All around, I think it’s a better idea. I loved the trail — it was a lot of fun, but this will be a lot more fun.”
