Phone distraction leads to crash

NEW ERA — An 18-year-old Montague man driving a gray 2019 Ford F-150 pickup truck told police he was distracted by his phone when his truck crossed the centerline on Oceana Drive near First Street and struck a white 2010 Ford stake body truck Friday, Sept. 27, shortly before 2:30 p.m., according to an Oceana County Sheriff’s Office accident report.

The F-150 was northbound on Oceana Drive when it struck the other southbound truck, the report states. The teen driver, who was not injured, was cited for driving without a license.

The other driver, who is a 45-year-old Big Rapids man, received minor injuries and was not transported by ambulance, according to the report.

Both drivers were wearing seatbelts.
