‘No actual threat’ during incident at school campus

September 26, 2024

HART — Police responded to an incident at the Hart Public Schools campus Wednesday evening, Sept. 25, involving a juvenile suspect, according to Oceana County Prosecuting Attorney Joseph Bizon.

“The officer in charge called me promptly as soon as he was able,” said Prosecutor Bizon. “He gave me preliminary information known at the time. As of this morning (Thursday, Sept. 26), Hart police are still investigating.

“Speculation and imprecise/inaccurate information spread on social media by parents and students was not helping the situation.

“There was never an actual threat to public safety. It was a serious matter in that it created a lot of confusion and elicited an understandably emotional response from those immediately present and caused a very serious and appropriate police response. As others have said, the police deserve a lot of credit for their immediate, efficient, and appropriate response to this incident. But no one was in actual danger.

“Michigan Rules of Professional Conduct 3.6 and 3.8 will prevent me from making any further comment at this time.” Bizon said he will share more information about the incident as soon as he can.

“If anyone has information or evidence, please submit that to the Hart Police Department so it can be properly documented.” To contact HPD, call (231) 873-2488.
