Veterans chair to speak at Dems meeting

September 23, 2024

PENTWATER — Tracy Blamer, chair of the Oceana Veterans Affairs Committee, will be the guest of the Oceana Democratic Party at its monthly meeting Tuesday, Oct. 1, at 7 p.m.

The meeting, which is open to the public, will take place at the democratic headquarters at Shared Space art studio at 4391 W. Monroe Rd.

“The mission of the Oceana County Department of Veterans Affairs Committee is to care for, lend support to, and be an advocate for the veterans of Oceana County, their spouses, and families,” states an Oceana Democratic Party press release. “The OCDVA vigorously and contentiously pursues all avenues of veterans’ benefits and community services that provide compensation or pension relief for the burden of war and service to the United States on behalf of the veteran.

“Tracy Blamer is a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving in Iraq and the Persian Gulf. She served for four years and worked in the defense contracting industry for another decade. She earned a degree in business management from Central Pennsylvania University, had children, and moved back to Oceana County, where she grew up. She served as budget and finance chair for the Veterans Affairs Committee and is now its chair.

“The program on Oct. 1 continues a series of public meetings hosted by the Oceana Democratic Party to offer a forum to address issues that are important to local communities. This year, the group has heard from Eric Herrygers, speaking about his agricultural experiences in the county; from U.S. Senator Debbie Stabenow, Michigan’s first female senator; and most recently, Suzie Knoll, departing director of the Oceana Conservation District.”

The Oceana Democrats headquarters is open Monday, 12-4 p.m.; Wednesday, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.; and Saturday, 1-4 p.m.. Oceana Dems can be reached at oceanacountydems@gmail.com, or at www.oceanademocrats.com.
