Sentences being imposed on women for doing meth in the jail

HART —  Two women were sentenced in Oceana County’s 51st Circuit Court Monday, Sept. 16, in connection to the case of female inmates doing meth inside the Oceana County Jail‎ last May.

Smith

– Ashlynnd Marie Smith, 28, of 922 E. Tinkham Ave., Ludington, pleaded guilty July 22 to prisoner possessing contraband and was sentenced Monday to 10 days in jail with credit for 10 days served; one year probation; and $658 in fines and costs. Charges of methamphetamine possession and lying to a police officer were dismissed.

Fennel

– Candice Lee Fennel, 28, of 6441 E. Fillmore Rd., Hesperia, pleaded guilty July 22 to prisoner possessing contraband and was sentenced Monday to seven months in jail and $398 in fines and costs. A charge of methamphetamine was dismissed.

Collins

– Dorothy Geneva Collins was sentenced Sept. 9 to one year in jail with credit for 119 days served and $598 in fines and costs. Collins pleaded guilty July 15 to methamphetamine possession, and charges of prisoner possessing contraband and lying to a police officer were dismissed. Collins also was sentenced in a probation violation case.

Hamilton

– Janet Mae-Fawn Hamilton, 27, of 5578 Skeels Rd., Holton, is scheduled for sentencing Monday, Sept. 23. Hamilton pleaded guilty Aug. 5 to delivery/manufacture of methamphetamine for her role of sharing the drug with the three other inmates. Charges of methamphetamine possession, furnishing contraband to prisoners and prisoner possessing contraband were dismissed. 

Corrections officers noticed “odd behavior” of the female inmates the evening of May 13, said Oceana County Sheriff Craig Mast. 

Meth possession is punishable by up to 10 years in prison; prisoner possessing contraband is punishable by up to five years; lying to a peace officer carries a two-year maximum; meth delivery/manufacture has a 20-year maximum; and furnishing contraband carries a five-year maximum term.
