BENONA TOWNSHIP — A 50-year-old Manistee man was airlifted to Butterworth Hospital Grand Rapids following a motorcycle vs. car crash Saturday afternoon, Sept. 14, on 18th Avenue near Silver Lake.
“… at approximately 3:31 p.m., deputies received a call for a motorcycle vs. car accident on 18th Avenue, near the entrance to the Fox Barn near Silver Lake,” states Oceana County Undersheriff Ryan Schiller in a press release.
“The crash involved a 50-year-old Manistee man and 59-year-old Mears woman who was not injured in the crash,” states Undersheriff Schiller. “The 50-year-old Manistee man was driving a 1999 Harley Davidson motorcycle traveling south on 18th Avenue when he attempted to pass the vehicle ahead of him in a no-passing zone. As the motorcycle driver was attempting to pass, the driver of the passenger car made a left turn into the parking lot at the Fox Barn, when the motorcycle struck the passenger car.
“The driver of the motorcycle suffered significant injuries and was transported by Life EMS to Trinity Health Shelby Campus to intercept with AeroMed who took him to Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids.
“We do not believe alcohol or drugs to be any factor in this accident.
“We were assisted at the scene by Mason-Oceana 911, Life EMS, Shelby-Benona Fire Department, and the Mason County Sheriff’s Office for their drone team and accident investigation.”
