PENTWATER — The Pentwater Village Council voted unanimously to offer the village manager job to Rachel Witherspoon, who is the assistant to village manager for the Village of Milford.
Pentwater Interim Village Manager Steve Brock said Witherspoon is in contract negotiations with the search firm and the village attorney. “They voted 7-0 to enter into contract negotiations with her,” said Brock.
Witherspoon replaces Chris Brown who was fired by the council last March. The council voted 5-2 to terminate Brown’s contract without cause at the end of a regular meeting. Brock was hired as interim manager in June.
Witherspoon has a bachelor’s degree in business administration and a master’s degree in public administration and policy from University of Michigan Dearborn, according to her Linkedin profile.
Other candidates interviewed by the council during a public forum were: Drew Willison, an attorney in Washington, DC; Kelly Ewalt, the community coordinator for Berrien Springs; and Katie Anderson, the planning/zoning administrator and recreation director for the Village of Pentwater.
“I’m hopeful they’ll be wrapped up early next week,” said Brock of the contract negotiations. “The council will have to ‘bless’ it one more time, and that could likely be Sept. 23 at a special meeting.”
The village received 21 applications for the position.
